President Obama Proving Himself on Foreign Policy
It may not be the foreign policy he campaigned on, or the policies the more left leaning of the electorate wanted to see, but President Obama is proving to be a credible leader in the war on terrorism. According to our latest poll, almost half (49%) of likely voters say the President’s job performance on the War on Terror is excellent or good. This is up 12 percentage points from this time last year.
the past 12 months, actions taken by the Obama Administration have led to the deaths of Osama bin Laden, Moammar Gadhafi, and a number of leaders in the Al Qaeda hierarchy. President Obama worked with NATO and supported the air strikes and assistance to Libyan rebels, and in so doing, the tyranny of Gadhafi has ended.
Additionally, the Obama Administration has increased drone activities and troop levels in Afghanistan, all in an effort to better stabilize the county and lead us to a time when we may be able to bring all of our troops home.
In Iraq, the President announced last week that he will be bringing all of the troops home, in his remarks he said our troops in Iraq will be home for the Holidays.
While this move is not the most popular amongst some foreign policy experts, mainly the more hawkish of the group, and only time will tell if pulling the troops out was in the best interest of the United States and Iraq, it was a decision the President made and a majority (57%) of likely voters in America agree with.
It should also be noted, that while majorities want our troops home, almost three-quarters (71%) feel pulling out of Iraq will allow insurgents to undermine the Iraqi government and lead to increased violence. His overall job performance on Iraq has increased by 10 percentage points since this time last year, now, 42% say he is doing an excellent or good job on Iraq, only 32% at this time said that last year.
While the President is seen by majorities as making positive decisions when it comes to the war in Iraq, a little more than a third (35%) still say he is doing a poor job.
In the Middle East, it is a waiting game as Egypt and Libya now work to regroup and build new governments. Syria is on the brink of major change, should the rebels find a way to overtake the Assad regime. A new day is rising in the Middle East, and in the specific case of Libya, a plurality (45%) of American’s believe the new regime will most likely be hostile towards the United States, but a plurality (46%) also say we were justified in sending military aid to the Libyan rebels. While the President is not making everyone happy, and some of the ground work had been laid, he has been proactive when he has needed to be, and has definitely won over some of his critics in the past year. As his overall job approval remains around 42%, right now, the American electorate is agreeing with the actions of President Obama when it comes to combatting terrorism and keeping our nation secure.

I think most Americans would grade President Obama an "A+" based on his foreign policy achievements...especially when juxtaposed against the many foreign policy failures of the Bush-Cheney years. Obama wouldn't know his way out of a paper bag with a hole in it, let alone know what to do with foreign policy. Bin Laden was killed by our military, not Mr. Idiot in Chief! But he likes to take the credit for it anyway. The whole story is fishy to me, especially how many times the story was changed.. I bet Bin Laden was already dead, and Mr. Pres. slipping in the polls needed an ego boost. So he threw us this line of CRAP!
