IBOPE Zogby Poll: Two-Thirds Say Costa Concordia Accident Has No Impact on Likelihood to Take Cruise

80% Consider Cruise Liners Safe

UTICA, NY – The Costa Concordia accident off the Tuscan Island of Giglio is having little impact on whether US adults consider cruise liners to be safe or whether it would impact their decision to take a trip on a cruise liner, a new IBOPE Zogby survey finds.

The January 20-24 survey shows cruise liners are considered very (42%) or somewhat (38%) safe by a total of 80%, while 15% consider them unsafe (12% somewhat unsafe; 3% very unsafe).

Two-thirds (68%) say the Costa Concordia incident has no impact on how likely they are to take a trip on a cruise liner in the future, while 28% are less likely because of it (10% much less likely; 18% somewhat less likely).

IBOPE Zogby International conducted an online survey of 2,019 adults. The margin of error is +/- 2.2 percentage points. A sampling of IBOPE Zogby International's online panel, which is representative of the adult population of the U.S., was invited to participate. Slight weights were added to region, party, age, race, religion, gender and education to more accurately reflect the population.
